Privacy policy
What we collect, why, who sees it, and how you can take it back. Written to meet Quebec’s Law 25 and Canada’s PIPEDA, in plain language.
1. Who we are
[Legal entity name] (“With Intent”, “we”) operates the With Intent dating membership from Montréal, Quebec.
Our person in charge of the protection of personal information is [Name, title]. You can reach them at privacy@avecintentions.com.
2. What we collect
We collect only what the service needs to work.
Your account
The email address you sign up with.
Your profile
- First name, birth date, gender and orientation
- Relationship intent and goals, family goals, lifestyle and values
- City and neighbourhood
- Occupation, bio and your answers to prompts
- Photos
Your criteria
Your deal breakers and preferences, which decide who you are shown.
Your activity
Connections, connection requests and the messages you send and receive.
Verification and background checks
For identity verification we keep the status only: pass or fail, the date, and a reference from the verification provider. We never keep images of your ID or your ID numbers. For the Committed level, and only with your consent, we keep the pass or fail result of a background check.
Safety
Reports you file, reports filed about you, and blocks.
Behaviour events
Records such as whether you responded to a request and how quickly you replied. We use them to derive your standing label (see section 8).
3. Sensitive information
Your sexual orientation and your relationship intent are sensitive. We collect them because the service cannot work without them: they decide who can be shown to you and whom you can be shown to. We ask for your explicit consent when you provide them, and you can withdraw it by editing your profile or deleting your account.
4. What we never collect
- Your precise location or GPS position. We keep only the city and neighbourhood you choose.
- Images of identity documents, or the numbers on them.
- Biometric templates.
- Your phone contacts.
5. How we use it
- To run your account, show your profile to members who fit your criteria, and show you members who fit yours.
- To deliver messages and enforce the rules of the service, including time limits and closures.
- To verify identity and, where you have consented, run a background check.
- To investigate reports, protect members and prevent fraud.
- To derive your standing label.
- To take payment for your membership, and to answer you when you write to us.
We do not use your information for advertising.
6. Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers who help us run the service, and only what they need.
- Supabase provides our database and hosting. Your data is held in the Canada (Central) region, in Montréal.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple and payments.
- Identity verification and background-check providers, when we engage them. They return pass or fail to us, and nothing more.
- Authorities, where the law requires it or where someone’s safety is at serious risk.
We do not sell your data. We do not show ads.
7. Where it is stored and how long we keep it
Your data is stored in Canada.
- Message contents are removed 30 days after a connection is closed.
- Account data is deleted when you ask us to, as described on the delete your account page. We confirm within 30 days.
- Two things survive deletion by design: a record that two people must not be shown to each other again, holding only two anonymous identifiers, and reports filed about an account, with the name removed.
8. Automated decisions
Your behaviour standing (Trusted, Good standing, New, or Building reputation) is derived automatically from your behaviour on the service. The inputs are your response rate, your reply time, whether you follow through on closing connections properly, and complaints made about you.
No person makes that decision at the moment it is made. Under section 12.1 of Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, you may ask us for the personal information used and the reasons and principal factors behind the decision, ask for it to be corrected, and have it reviewed by a person. You can appeal from within the app or by writing to privacy@avecintentions.com.
9. Your rights
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct it if it is wrong.
- Delete it.
- Receive a copy in a commonly used format (portability).
- Withdraw your consent, understanding that some features may then stop working.
- Complain to the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Write to privacy@avecintentions.com and we will reply within 30 days.
10. Age
With Intent is for adults. You must be 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete it if we find it.
11. Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
12. Invitation list
If you ask for an invitation on our website, we collect your email address, your language (English or French) and the time you gave your consent. We use them for one purpose only: to send you a single email when invitations open. They are stored in Canada, in the same database as member information. We delete them after the invitations have gone out, or sooner if you ask at privacy@avecintentions.com. We never use them for anything else and we do not share them.
13. Contact
